Accessibility
Made for every teacher and student
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
What we do
- Clear, high-contrast colours and large text and buttons, including on phones and tablets. Pages work at 400% zoom without sideways scrolling.
- Everything can be used with a keyboard, with a clear focus outline and a "Skip to main content" link. Crates open with Space or Enter.
- Pop-up windows keep the keyboard inside them, close with Escape and return you to where you were.
- Buttons, fields, coins and badges have names a screen reader can read, and messages such as "Saved" are announced.
- Each screen has its own page title and main heading. Te reo Māori words are marked so screen readers say them correctly.
- If your device is set to reduce motion, crate animations, confetti and camera movements are switched off.
- 3D lessons can read every step aloud, and use the Atkinson Hyperlegible font, designed for readers with low vision.
- Plain-English instructions, and no flashing content.
- A "Fast mode" for older devices, and every 3D lesson has matching slides and printable worksheets.
Known limits
- The 3D scenes and some games need a mouse, touch screen or keyboard and may be hard to use with a screen reader. The slides, worksheets and question sets cover the same learning.
- Spelling Arena rounds are timed. Students who need more time can use the untimed question sets and games instead.
- Some older worksheets are image-based PDFs. Ask us for a different format and we'll help.
